FIBER INTERNET
What Is Fiber?
Fiber is made up of single or multiple strands of glass, covered in a protective sheath. It works by transmitting pulses of light rather than electrical pulses. The capacity of a given strand is theoretically limitless and determined only by the performance of the electronics at either end. Advances in fiber technology like dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) take this ceiling even higher. DWDM allows the electronics at either end of a fiber cable to transmit multiple colors of light over a single strand. This technology increases that connection’s capacity exponentially without trenching.
Translation: Fiber is awesome. It’s the fastest, cleanest type of last-mile connection, easily surpassing copper and cable. It’s also very secure, since it doesn’t have an electromagnetic field, which could be read by surveillance equipment. Providers often offer the best service-level agreements with fiber, including the fastest mean time to repair (MTTR), which makes it ideal for handling mission-critical data.
What Is Optical Fiber Technology?
Fiber optics, or optical fibers, are long, thin strands of carefully drawn glass about the diameter of a human hair. These strands are arranged in bundles called optical cables. We rely on them to transmit light signals over long distances. At the transmitting source, the light signals are encoded with data… the same data you see on the screen of a computer. So, the optical fiber transmits “data” by light to a receiving end, where the light signal is decoded as data. Therefore, fiber optics is actually a transmission medium – a “pipe” to carry signals over long distances at very high speeds. Fiber optic cables were originally developed in the 1950’s for endoscopes. The purpose was to help doctors view the inside of a human patient without major surgery. In the 1960’s, telephone engineers found a way to use the same technology to transmit and receive telephone calls at the “speed of light”. That is about 186,000 miles per second in a vacuum but slows to about two-thirds of this speed in a cable.
Why is Fiber important to the value of my home?
Fiber internet can do a lot for you and your family. You may already know that it enables you to do more in less time, but did you know that it can also add value to your home?
We all know the basic factors that contribute to a home’s value. Like size and layout, the location, and its age and condition. But did you know that your internet connection is also an important factor? Many buyers consider a home’s internet options and will pay more for a home with fiber internet. Some even argue that fiber connectivity is even more important to buyers than location.
In a recent study, researchers at the University of Colorado and Carnegie Mellon University studied about half a million home sales. They investigated the relationship between broadband connections, such as fiber, and house prices. They found that access to fiber internet added 3.1% to the value of a home. The median home value used in the study was $175,000. The 3.1% increase would be an additional $5,437 to the median value. That is equal to adding a full fireplace or a half bathroom.
A more recent study was conducted by the Fiber To The Home (FTTH) Council. They found that there was a higher per capita GDP (gross domestic product) in communities where gigabit internet was available. They also found that homes sold for 7% more if they had access to 1 gigabit broadband.
Fiber internet doesn’t just benefit your home, it’s great for communities too. Areas that have access to fiber are more attractive to businesses, especially tech companies where high-speed internet is a must. More businesses = more jobs, which leads to a better economy. A community like this will be attractive to house hunters.
Don’t fall for Marketing Ploys!
Marketing ploys are when companies advertise something to make you want to buy the product. An example is implying you are getting fiber internet when in reality their main line or backbone of their service might be fiber, however by the time it reaches your location it is a coax cable. Some companies claim they have fiber to the home but they actually have a fiber line near your area that will feed the connection to the entrance of your neighborhood and then switch over to coax cable to feed throughout the neighborhood and then to the home.
NETworx Broadband FIBER INTERNET provides a single fiber optic line direct to your location from our internet source. With our internet you are not sharing your speeds with the neighborhood. The speed you sign up for is brought directly to your location.
An additional advertising ploy seen in the market today is a special price for one year, you purchase the product for this great price and then 12 months later the price increases sometimes by double. Companies are hopeful you are either happy enough with their service to pay the higher rate or perhaps don’t even notice the rate increase.

We not only pride ourselves in our product, our delivery, our supreme customer service but also the fact we are transparent to our subscribers.
